OGDEN — Charges were filed Friday against a Roy woman accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl.
Glenda Rae Helton, 37, is charged in 2nd District Court with sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony, sex abuse of a child, a second-degree felony, and unlawful sexual activity with a minor, a third-degree felony.
The investigation began after a relative found sexually explicit messages on the girl’s phone, according to charging documents.
When confronted by detectives, Helton claimed she had a short-term relationship with the girl, who is now 14, that only lasted three months, the charges state.
“After further investigation it was determined that Helton lied about the length of the relationship and evidence was found that it started back in 2018 when teachers at the juvenile’s school reported overhearing the juvenile in phone calls to Helton make explicit statements and repeatedly telling Helton that she loved her,” according to charging documents.
Police believe the sexual contact began when the girl was 13 and continued up until the time of Helton’s arrest, the charges state.
