SALT LAKE CITY — Little Cottonwood Canyon opened Saturday after three naturally occurring avalanches left it closed through Friday, officials said.
The canyon was closed for days this week after heavy snowfall.
Officials also closed Big Cottonwood Canyon Saturday morning due to "extreme congestion," and it remained closed as of 11:45 a.m.

The Friday snow slides happened near Tanners Flat, White Pine and Snowbird Entry 1, according to Utah Department of Transportation spokesman John Gleason. The slide near Snowbird left 8 to 9 feet of snow on the road.
Elsewhere, a trooper was hit Friday while sitting in his patrol car on U.S. Highway 89 in Sardine Canyon, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street. The trooper was briefly trapped inside his car and experienced minor neck pain.
