RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Ryan McMahon made seven 3-pointers and scored a season-high 23 points, helping sixth-ranked Louisville beat North Carolina State 77-57. Jordan Nwora added 14 points for the Cardinals, who maintained their hold on the Atlantic Coast Conference lead with their eighth straight win. Louisville led by 17 points late in the first half, and then responded to an N.C. State run midway through the second half by pushing the margin right back out to 15 points. C.J. Bryce scored 15 points for the Wolfpack.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Vernon Carey Jr. had 26 points and a season-high 17 rebounds for the 10th double-double of his freshman season and No. 9 Duke beat Syracuse 97-88. Cassius Stanley keyed an early second-half surge and the Blue Devils won their third straight after a two-game skid. It was a crucial game for Syracuse, which had a five-game winning streak snapped on the road at Clemson on Tuesday night and needed a signature win to bolster its resume for consideration for the NCAA Tournament. Stanley had 15 points, Tre Jones had 17, Matthew Hurt had 12 and Alex O'Connell 11 for Duke.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — Jared Hamilton scored 18 points and made 2 of 3 free throws with 17.2 seconds remaining to lift Boston College to a 71-70 victory over North Carolina. Derryck Thornton added 15 points for the Eagles, who spoiled the return of North Carolina point guard Cole Anthony after a seven-week absence. Anthony, North Carolina’s star freshman point guard and leading scorer, had 26 points in his first action since he had arthroscopic surgery Dec. 16 to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee. His desperation 3-pointer just before the final buzzer came up short. Jay Heath scored 12 points for the Eagles, who snapped a 12-game losing streak to North Carolina.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Andrien White scored 17 points to help Wake Forest beat Clemson 56-44. Randolph Childress added 10 points for the Demon Deacons, who made a trio of 3-point shots early in the second half to fuel a 14-0 run that broke open a three-point game at halftime. Olivier Sarr grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds. Aamir Simms scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the Tigers, who shot only 30.5% from the field and only 4 of 21 from 3-point distance.
CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson has lost forward Jonathan Baehre for the season after the junior re-tore an ACL he had hurt last year. Baehre had surgery Friday. Baehre had first sustained the knee injury last May and re-habbed in time to play two games with the Tigers this season. The 6-foot-10 junior is a transfer from North Carolina Asheville who sat out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA guidelines. He missed Clemson's gold-medal winning trip to the World University Games last summer.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — John Mooney’s 28 points moved him past 1,000 for his career and Notre Dame ran away from Georgia Tech in the second half for an 80-72 victory Saturday. Mooney, who picked up his nation-leading 17th double-double with 10 rebounds, was 9-of-18 shooting for the Fighting Irish, who won their second straight league game. T.J. Gibbs scored 19 points, Dane Goodwin 14 and Rex Pflueger 13 for Notre Dame, which shot 47% (24 of 51) for the game. Jose Alvarado scored 25 points to lead Georgia Tech.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Nicki Ekhomu scored a season-high 25 points and the No. 14 Florida State women found their shooting touch in the second half in beating Pitt 66-41. After a first half in which both teams shot only 21% and were tied at 20, the Seminoles shot 51% in the second half and 7 of 14 from the arc _ after going 0 for 10 from distance in the first two quarters _ to outscore the Panthers by 25. Dayshanette Harris had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead Pitt.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina coach Roy Williams says star freshman point guard Cole Anthony has returned to limited practice and could play against Boston College after missing 11 games following knee surgery. Anthony had arthroscopic surgery Dec. 16 to repair a partially torn meniscus in his right knee. Anthony said this week that he was feeling close to 100%. Williams says Anthony went through roughly a quarter to a third of Thursday's practice. He says Anthony's availability for the BC game Saturday would depend on how he feels after Thursday and possibly more work Friday.
