SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- The Utah Public Service Commission has ordered Questar Gas Co. to lower its natural gas rates by 5.3 percent.
The rate decrease totals $68 million and represents an annual decrease of nearly $48 for the average Utah household.
Also Thursday, the commission approved two smaller rate increases that average 7 cents and $4.57 for the typical customer. Those increases are for a tariff charge and to pay for management costs.
The net effect of the three changes means an annual decrease of about $43, or 5.3 percent, for the typical residential customer.
All three changes take effect Saturday.
Commission spokeswoman Julie Orchard says the rate adjustments account for the changing costs of gas supplies.
Over the summer, the commission approved rate increases for residential customers amounting to an additional $163 a year.
Company officials said the increase was necessary to cover rising costs of purchasing natural gas as well as labor, pipes and other infrastructure.
