SALT LAKE CITY — A long-haul truck driver from Illinois was arrested and accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Salt Lake City after police say he took some unusual measures to avoid being arrested.
John Henry Redmond, 35, of East St. Louis, Illinois, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on Tuesday for investigation of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of object rape.
Redmond and a woman met sometime between Monday night and early Tuesday, according to police. The woman told police that $200 was exchanged, but not for sex, a police affidavit states.
But when she declined to have sex with Redmond, the woman told police that he “produced a gun and put her in chokehold, telling her not to scream,” according to the affidavit.
“You’re not leaving. You’re going to give me what I want,” Redmond allegedly told the woman.
As the woman struggled with Redmond while he was raping her, he told her to “stop ... squirming or I’ll blow your head off,” the affidavit states.
After multiple attacks, Redmond had the woman get dressed and “forced her to make a video recording stating everything that happened had been consensual,” police wrote in the report.
He then made the woman hold his hand as he walked her to her car, and “took pictures of her and the vehicle as she left,” the affidavit states.
When interviewed by police, Redmond admitted paying the woman $200, but claimed the sexual activity the two engaged in “was all consensual” and he denied “that he did anything wrong,” according to the affidavit.
