LOGAN (AP) — A Smithfield man accused of kidnapping and raping a woman he met on a dating app has pleaded not guilty to multiple sex abuse charges.
The Herald Journal reports Raymond Castaneda pleaded not guilty Monday in district court in Logan to rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.
A judge bound him over to trial to face all charges after a preliminary hearing that included tearful testimony from the alleged victim.
Prosecutors say Castaneda and the alleged victim met on the dating app Tinder. According to an affidavit of probable cause, the alleged victim was “mentally, physically and sexually abused by Castaneda.”
Castaneda allegedly became increasingly controlling and aggressive during sex, at one point choking the alleged victim to the point of unconsciousness during intercourse, the affidavit said. He claims the acts in question were consensual.
