SOUTH SALT LAKE — An 18-year-old man who police say has drug addiction and anger issues was arrested for allegedly abusing a 10-month-old child he was babysitting, according to police.

Koby Bonomo, 18, of West Jordan, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Sunday for investigation of child abuse.

Saturday night, Bonomo “was left in charge to care of the child victim” at an apartment near 600 West and 3700 South, according to a police booking affidavit. When the mother returned home about three hours later, “the baby was found to have several bruises that were discovered on the child’s face, arms, legs,” the affidavit states.

The mother took the child to Primary Children’s Hospital early Sunday morning where doctors also discovered a fractured left leg. A specialist at the hospital “stated the spiral fracture of the femur is consistent with being caused by another person such as pulling or twisting on the leg. The injury is not consistent with falling off a bed,” according to the affidavit.

“The child’s mother stated (Bonomo) had been using heroin and had been nodding off prior to caring for the child. (He) was reported to have anger issues stemming from his juvenile years...” and had a juvenile detention warrant out for his arrest “after he fled from a juvenile drug program in Layton a few months ago.”
