KEARNS — A man died and two women are recovering at a hospital after the vehicle they were in drifted off the road and crashed into a fence before it hit parked cars near a home early Saturday morning, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash near 5211 S. Shalee St. about 1 a.m., said Unified police detective Ken Hansen.

Travis Haddow, who lives at the home where the incident occurred, said he heard the crash. He said a vehicle was traveling east on 5200 South before the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed into his truck and deck at his home.

"He just caught mid-air and hit my truck and pushed it into my neighbor's yard," Haddow said, standing in front of this home. "I didn't know exactly what happened. ... I just heard a loud racing car and then I just heard 'boom, boom, boom.' That's when I got back out of my room and got out here and his car was in the back of my truck. ... I look into the car and it was a gruesome picture."

The man inside the vehicle, identified as 19-year-old Bryan Huezo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The two 19-year-old women passengers were transported to a hospital in serious condition, but their injuries have since been stabilized and were listed in fair condition, Hansen said.

Police said Huezo was driving the vehicle and the two women were passengers.

Haddow said he heard what sounded like several cars traveling fast at the time of the crash. It remains unclear what caused the crash and the incident remains under investigation.

"At this time, we don't know the reason the vehicle left the road," Hansen said. "Our accident reconstruction team was called out and they'll be putting everything back together to see what exactly caused the accident."

As for Haddow, he fears what could have happened had he been on his deck at the time. He said he was out there minutes before the crash to put water out for his dog before going back inside his home.

"If I had been 45 seconds later, I would have been right in the middle of it," he said.
