NEW YORK (AP) — Fifteen-year-old Coco Gauff (gahf) meets defending champion Naomi Osaka tonight in a third-round match at the U.S. Open. No. 22 Marin Cilic (CHIHL'-ihch), the 2014 U.S. Open champion, faces 14th-seeded John Isner in the only third-round matchup between seeded players in what's been an upset-filled men's tournament.

UNDATED (AP) _ There’s a full slate of the college football today. No. 11 Oregon meets No. 16 Auburn in Arlington, Texas, in the only game of Week 1 with two ranked teams. No. 2 Alabama opens its season in Atlanta against Duke.

NEW YORK (AP) — Oakland has pulled within a half-game of Cleveland for the top AL wild card with an 8-2 victory over the AL East-leading Yankees last night. New York ended a four-game winning streak and pulled CC Sabathia after three innings of one-run ball because of recurring knee pain. Right-hander Domingo Germán takes the mound for the Yankees today against Oakland righty Homer Bailey, who handed Germán one of his three defeats while with Kansas City in April.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Indians will see how left fielder Tyler Naquin (NAY'-kwihn) is feeling, a day after he was carted off at Tampa Bay with a sprained right knee. Naquin was injured when he made a catch and ran full speed into the low wall in the corner. Cleveland lost 4-0 to the Rays, who are one game behind Oakland in the race for the second AL wild card. Right-hander Zach Plesac (PLEE'-sak) starts tonight for the Indians. Rays lefty Jalen Beeks is expected to start or follow an opener.

DETROIT (AP) _ The Minnesota Twins have a chance to break the single-season home run record tonight in Detroit. C.J. Cron hit Minnesota's 262nd homer last night, moving the team within five of the major league record of 267 set last year by the Yankees. The Twins have won five straight, including the first four of a 10-game road trip, and lead Cleveland by 4 1/2 games in the AL Central. Martin Perez starts for Minnesota tonight against Matthew Boyd.
