SALT LAKE CITY — This Saturday is buzzing with events that make a splash in celebrating different cultures from around the world and making the world a better place.
7th Annual Utah Pacific Island Heritage Month Kick Off
8 a.m. - 10 p.m. at Sorenson Multicultural Center and Unity Fitness Center
Utah Gov. Gary Herbert declared August as Utah's Pacific Island Heritage Month. Spend the last Saturday of July celebrating Pacific Island culture with films, art displays and other entertainment.
The day-long event starts with a 25-and-older volleyball tournament.
Dog Mode Inaugural North American Diving Dogs competition
Saturday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at DogMode
For $25 your dog can test their jumping skills and compete against other good boys and girls. DogMode’s pool is 45 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 4 ½ feet at its deepest point which allows for some serious play and exercise.
Dogs will compete for the greatest distance jump throughout the day and "air retrieve" at the end of the day.
Beginner pups can test out diving for $10 if there aren't any competitors waiting.
Canyon Rim Cares
9 a.m. - Noon at Canyon Rim Park
Canyon Rim Community and Venture Out are leading a service day with an anticipated 500 people working on several service projects ranging from a park clean-up, feminine hygiene kit making, empowerment stone making for cancer patients and more.
The Canyon Rim Cares website says Millcreek Mayor Jeff Silvistrini will give a few words at the beginning. The African Festival
Noon - 8 p.m. at Liberty Park
The 4th Annual African Festival is a family-friendly, free event hosted by United Africans of Utah. According to the event’s Facebook page, visitors can enjoy music, dance and spoken word performances, with art and food vendors.
2019 Mega Peruvian Festival
1 p.m. - 10 p.m. at Gateway Plaza
Mega Peruvian Festival is hosting their ninth event filled with, "rich Peruvian Culture with folklore, arts, live music, local and international artist and arguably the best food in the world; Peruvian Cuisine."
According to the event’s Facebook page, "Peru’s culture is a set of beliefs, customs and way of life inherited from the native Incas, Spanish conquistadors and immigrant groups such as Africans, Japanese, Chinese and Europeans."
Bollywood at Daybreak
6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at SoDa Row, South Jordan
The LiveDAYBREAK Community Council is holding their 4th Annual Bollywood at Daybreak festival to celebrate Indian culture. The event will feature live music, dancing, food and art from local vendors.
The event’s Facebook page says, "Crowd favorites such as the color throw and henna art will also be returning."
