MIDVALE — More than 7,000 Rocky Mountain Power customers were without power in the Midvale area Monday morning, according to the company's website.
Another 2,000 customers in Beaver and Iron counties experienced overnight outages, company officials said.
Midvale
As of 6:30 a.m., the Rocky Mountain Power website showed 19 outages in Utah affecting 7,773 customers, almost all in the Midvale area. Those outages were reported about 5:50 a.m.
By 2:15 p.m., just over 1,000 people remained affected by the outage, according to Rocky Mountain Power.
About 5:30 p.m., Rocky Mountain Power's website showed just over 700 people were affected by the outage.
The agency's website showed that a little more than a dozen or so outages existed throughout the Salt Lake valley by late Monday evening. It was unclear whether or not those were related to the earlier outages.
A car struck a power pole near 800 W. 8000 South, which caused some power lines to come down several blocks away, near 480 W. 8000 South, according to a tweet from Unified Fire Authority.
No one was injured in the crash, but the lines coming down caused the power outage and a small field fire, UFA said. Crews quickly controlled the fire and Unified police helped control traffic in the area, UFA said.
Unified police said 8000 South would be closed from Oak Street (480 West) to 700 West until approximately 11 a.m. One person was taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run crash, police said.
The driver, later identified as 22-year-old Preston Reed, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to Unified police.
The outage affected traffic signals on State Street and surrounding roads, the KSL Traffic Center reported. However, traffic on I-15 in the area did not appear to be affected.
As a result of the power outage, water pumps in the area were not working, according to Unified police; 8000 South was flooding under the I-15 bridge, but by 9:50 a.m. the water had been pumped out.
Beaver, Iron counties
In Beaver and Iron counties, power was restored by 5 a.m. after an outage affected nearly 2,000 in Beaver, Brian Head, Paragonah and Parowan, according to Rocky Mountain Power. Anyone who is still experiencing a power outage is asked to reset their breakers.
