WEST WENDOVER, Nev. (AP) — The mayor of West Wendover, Nevada has endorsed former Obama administration housing secretary Julian Castro for president. Castro's campaign on Saturday announced the support of Mayor Daniel Corona while the Democratic presidential candidate visited the city on the border with Utah.
SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah (AP) — Former Utah Congresswoman Mia Love says she's poised to run in 2020 for the Republican nomination to challenge the Democrat who last year denied her a third term in the U.S. House. The Deseret News reports that Love said in an interview Friday that she's ready to run for the 4th Congressional District seat unless a Republican she considers strong enough to unseat Democrat Ben McAdams enters the race.
WEST JORDAN, Utah (AP) — A father and his teenage daughter who survived being struck by lightning last month say they feel lucky that fellow attendees at a youth conference had the medical training needed to help keep them alive until first responders arrived. The Deseret News reports that Scott Robinson and 17-year-old Chloe Robinson remember little about the moment they were struck on June 20 outside a museum in Fillmore, Utah.
PAYSON, Utah (AP) — Utah authorities say a woman was fatally injured when struck by a bullet that first killed a man apparently taking his own life by shooting himself in the head. The Utah County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that investigators believe the couple were arguing early Saturday morning when the man shot himself while in a vehicle and the round then apparently "left the vehicle and struck the woman in the neck."
