WEST JORDAN — A motorcycle officer is in fair condition after being hit by an SUV while possibly lane filtering near Bangerter Highway Wednesday morning, police said.

The incident was reported just before 11:30 a.m. West Jordan police said two officers were traveling east on 9000 South and may have been lane filtering at the intersection of that road and Bangerter Highway when there was a collision between one of the police motorcycles and an SUV.

Police said the officer was alert and conscious, but "rattled" by the crash. He was transported to a hospital in fair condition and is expected to be OK, police said. By 3 p.m., he was being released from the hospital, according to a tweet from West Jordan police.

The crash scene was cleared within two hours and there are no road closures in the area, according to police.

It remains unclear if the officer struck the SUV or the SUV struck the officer. The crash remains under investigation. South Jordan police were called in to handle the investigation since the crash involved a West Jordan officer.

Police said the driver of the SUV remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. Other witnesses were also being interviewed by police Wednesday.
