WEST VALLEY CITY — A hit-and-run crash led to a hazmat situation early Monday morning, authorities said.
The crash took place just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of Redwood Road and state Route 201, according to a tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation.
A semitruck carrying two trailers was eastbound on S.R. 201, according to West Valley Police Lt. Shane Matheson. A silver Chrysler 300 ran a red light and hit the truck, causing a diesel fuel spill, he said.
A hazmat crew was dispatched to the scene due to the fuel leak, Matheson said.
The driver of the Chrysler fled the scene, according to Matheson. As of 4:30 a.m., there were no updates about the driver’s whereabouts or injuries, he said.
The driver of the semitruck was uninjured, Matheson added.
Two lanes in each direction of Redwood Road, as well as the eastbound entrance ramp to S.R. 201, were closed after the crash, according to UDOT. As of 7:30 a.m., the scene has been cleared.
