WEST JORDAN— A 35-year-old man is dead after a motorcycle crash at 2036 W. 7800 South on Sunday morning, officials report.

Police identified the victim as Jacob Smith, of West Jordan.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m., according to West Jordan police officer Jennifer Worthen.

Worthen said the motorcyclist was traveling westbound when it collided with a passenger vehicle turning into Jordanaire Apartments. Witnesses told officials the motorcyclist was driving "at a high rate of speed."

Worthen said when paramedics arrived at the scene the motorcyclist "was not conscious, was not breathing and unalert." The medics performed CPR and transported him to Intermountain Medical Center where he later died.

Worthen said he was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the passenger vehicle, who police have identified as a female in her 30s, was taken into custody for investigation of DUI. Worthen said the driver refused to take a breathalyzer test.

Since several witnesses reported Smith's high speed, police are unsure who was at fault for the accident and are investigating.
