SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) — Police in the Dominican Republic say former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was wounded after being shot in the back at a bar in Santo Domingo. Police say Ortiz was ambushed Sunday night by a gunman who approached from behind and shot at close range. Police say the gunman was captured and beaten by a crowd at the bar. Ortiz’s father says his son is out of danger and that the bullet did not hit any major organ.

ST. LOUIS (AP) _ The Boston Bruins have forced a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup final by downing the St. Louis Blues, 5-1. Brad Marchand put the Bruins ahead to stay with a power-play goal 8:40 into the game before collecting an assist during Boston’s four-goal third period. Tuukka (TOO’-kah) Rask stopped 27 shots and David Pastrnak (PAHS’-tur-nak) also had a goal and an assist for the Bruins, who will host Game 5 on Wednesday.

UNDATED (AP) _ The Chicago Cubs are still two percentage points ahead of Milwaukee atop the NL Central after both teams won on Sunday. The Cubs earned a 5-1 win over the Cardinals as Kyle Hendricks tossed one-run ball over seven innings to win his sixth straight decision. Mike Moustakas (moos-TAH’-kahs) furnished a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Brewers topped the Pirates, 5-2 to complete a three-game sweep.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ Walker Buehler and two relievers combined on a five-hitter to pitch the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 1-0 victory over Madison Bumgarner and the Giants in San Francisco. Buehler was reached for five hits while fanning nine and walking one over seven innings to move to 7-1. Max Muncy homered into McCovey Cove off Bumgarner in the first inning, then exchanged words with the ace as he rounded the bases.

UNDATED (AP) _ The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays remain in a first-place tie in the AL East at 40-24. The Yanks blew leads of 5-0 and 6-5 before Aaron Hick delivered an RBI double in the 10th inning to lift New York over Cleveland, 7-6. Brandon Lowe (low) hit two of Tampa Bay’s four solo homers in a 6-1 win over the Boston Red Sox.
