SALT LAKE CITY — Despite a rainy weekend, construction crews are a day ahead of schedule to complete major TRAX repairs on downtown Salt Lake City’s Main Street.

For most of May, crews have worked to excavate old TRAX rail along the busy street. On Tuesday, the third and last phase of the $8.5 million, monthlong project began. The entire project should be completed by June 2 — right before the Utah Pride Parade the same day.

Here’s what commuters should know during this final phase, according to Utah Transit Authority spokesman Carl Arky:

For drivers:

  • Construction crews will be working at 150 S. Main Street.
  • There will be no north or south access to Main Street between 100 South and 200 South.
  • State Street and West Temple are the best routes for north and south access to downtown Salt Lake.
  • 400 South will be completely open to all east and westbound traffic.

For TRAX riders:

  • Red Line riders have full access to all stations and trains will run on a regular schedule.
  • Blue Line riders north of construction have full access to all stations from Salt Lake Central to City Center where they will need to exit, then walk or ride a bus to Gallivan Plaza to get back on the Blue Line.
  • Blue Line riders south of construction have full access to all stations from Courthouse to Draper Town Center. They will need to exit TRAX at Gallivan Plaza and walk or ride a bus to City Center to get back on the Blue Line.
  • Green Line riders north of the construction have full access to all stations from Airport to City Center where they will need to exit and transfer to the Blue Line. They will then need to exit at City Center to walk or ride a bus to Gallivan Plaza to get back on the Green Line.
  • Green Line riders south of construction have full access to all stations from West Valley Central to Central Pointe where they will need to exit TRAX to transfer to the Blue Line. They will then need to exit again at Gallivan Station to walk or ride a bus to City Center to get back on the Green Line.
