FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed free-agent punter Matt Darr and waived tight end Jordan Leggett.
Darr, who will compete with Lachlan Edwards for the punting duties, has previous experience with Jets coach Adam Gase when they were both in Miami in 2016.
The 26-year-old Darr averaged 40.5 yards per punt, with a net average of 36.3 yards, in five games last season with Buffalo. He began his NFL career with the Dolphins in 2015 after being signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee.
Leggett was a fifth-round pick by the Jets out of Clemson in 2017. He had a knee injury early in his rookie season and finished with no catches. Leggett showed some promise last season, making 14 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown in 15 games, including four starts.
The Jets now have five TEs on their 90-player roster — second-year man Chris Herndon, veteran returnees Eric Tomlinson and Neal Sterling, unrestricted free agent signee Daniel Brown, and fourth-round rookie Trevon Wesco.
