LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers outfielder A.J. Pollock will be out for at least six weeks after undergoing surgery to clear up an infection in his right elbow.

Pollock was in the Los Angeles clubhouse Monday, four days after the surgery. He said doctors inserted a catheter into his left biceps in order to deliver antibiotics to the affected area in his right arm.

The infection is near where he had surgery in 2016 to repair a broken elbow. It started when Pollock received a small cut during the Dodgers' series at the Chicago Cubs in late April. During the surgery, doctors removed metal hardware that had stabilized the elbow.

"We got on it right away, treated it right away," Pollock said of the cut on his elbow. "For a week it was nothing. It was a really, really strange thing. I have a lot of respect for infections now. It's a pretty serious thing. I don't know if we could've done anything differently."

Pollock, who signed a four-year, $55 million contract this past winter, is batting .223 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 28 games.

In part to address the loss of Pollock's right-handed bat for an extended period, the Dodgers signed free-agent catcher Travis d'Arnaud on Sunday.
