SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake police, a bomb squad and Utah National Guard explosive professionals removed two potentially explosive devices from a Salt Lake City home on Saturday.
The owner of the home near 1177 W. Picture Drive called police after finding what looked like a projectile with foreign writing on its shell, according to Salt Lake Police Sgt. Carlos Valencia.
"It appears to be a projectile about a foot long with Japanese writing on it, but I'm not an expert in the matter," Valencia said, noting that military experts will investigate further.
A second device was found under a coffee table at the home, Valencia said. Experts took both devices away for examination.
It appeared the device was hidden on a shelf in the homeowner's garage for years, Valencia said.
"There is no danger to neighbors or the community at all," the sergeant said.
Valencia credited the homeowner for doing "the right thing" and calling the police when finding the device.
