CLEARFIELD — A gas station customer who was involved in an altercation with the store’s owner on Wednesday has died, police confirmed Thursday.
Brandon Stufflebean, 39, died about 2:48 p.m. Thursday, according to a news release from Clearfield Police Department Assistant Chief Devin Rogers.
The altercation took place about 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at the Chevron station at 680 N. Main Street in Clearfield.
Investigators determined that Stufflebean got into an argument with employees at the store over the purchase of a drink, according to Rogers. A physical altercation followed and Stufflebean was punched once in the face.
He had a serious head injury and was taken to Davis County Hospital in extremely critical condition, Rogers said.
No arrests have been made in the case, which is still being considered an active investigation, Rogers said. The store owner is cooperating with police, he added.
He did not provide the store owner’s name.
The Chevron was closed for about two hours and 30 minutes Wednesday as police investigated the incident.
Personnel from the Clearfield Police Department, North Davis Fire District and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
