SYRACUSE — Police want the public to be aware of a man and woman who they say are going door to door offering Terminix pest control services and collecting debit card information.
Police were made aware of the scam in the city after a resident who had given his data to the pair realized the mistake and canceled his debit card before the man and woman could use the information, said Syracuse police detective Erin Behm.
The two are described as a white male with red hair, and a white female whose hair color wasn't specified. The pair asked people to sign contracts for Terminix services, and acquired debit card information from those who signed up, Syracuse police wrote in a Facebook post. The pair also said they scheduled appointments with these people, but when people contacted Terminix, there was nothing scheduled because the two aren’t employed with the company, police said.
Police have not yet received reports indicating money has been stolen, but other residents reported they've had the two people knock on their doors, Behm added. She wanted other residents to be aware if they spotted the two to not give any personal information to them.
Anyone who has had money taken from them as a part of the scam is encouraged to call Syracuse police at 801-825-4400.
