EMORY, Summit County — Westbound I-80 reopened Monday afternoon after a semitruck caught fire in the morning and forced the closure of the roadway 5 miles east of Emory near the Wyoming border.

The driver of the truck noticed smoke about 8:30 a.m. and pulled over to the side of the road, according to North Summit Fire spokesman Tyler Rowser. The driver called dispatch and tried to detach the trailer from the rest of the truck but was unable to separate the two.
Emergency personnel arrived shortly after and closed westbound I-80 while they doused the fire. Officials reopened one lane shortly after 12:30 p.m. The rest of the road was reopened later that day.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The truck is a total loss, but there were no injuries, Rowser said.
