SALT LAKE CITY — One man is in critical condition after he was found unconscious Sunday in a motel room that was on fire.

Salt Lake City fire crews responded to a call at 11:07 a.m. reporting multiple fires and someone barricaded in a room at the Motel 6, 1990 W. North Temple, according to Salt Lake City Fire Battalion Chief Richard Boden.

The responders forced their way into the motel room through the window first, and then the door, according to Salt Lake City fire division chief Ryan Mellor. They quickly extinguished the blaze, and found an unconscious man in the room, according to Boden. He was transported to University Hospital in critical condition.

The fire did not severely damage the Motel 6, Boden said, but there was minor heat and smoke damage in the room where the fire occurred.

Officials did not immediately release the cause of the fire and the victim’s identity.
