EVANSTON, Wyoming — Summit County Sheriff's officials identified the 49-year-old Mona man who died in an avalanche near Coalville on Saturday as Jason Lyman.
Lyman, along with a friend and a 14 year-old, was riding in the East Fork of the Chalk Creek area of Summit County when an avalanche was triggered that buried him for around 40 minutes, Summit County Sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Wright told KSL on Saturday.
After Lyman was extracted from the snow, lifesaving efforts were made until rescue crews arrived 40 minutes later. Wright confirmed that Lyman died from his injuries at a hospital in Evanston.
No one else was injured in the slide, which was around 500-600 feet wide and between four and 10 feet deep at its tip.
