SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah spent nearly $70,000 to keep national park services going in the state during the 35-day partial government shutdown.

The Deseret News reports the state funding was combined with private donations to keep open Zion, Bryce Canyon and Arches, the three most popular national parks in Utah.

According to the Governor's Office of Management and Budget, the state had agreed to spend up to $80,000.

The spending included $3,500 for the state Department of Transportation to plow snow-covered roads in Arches and Canyonlands national parks.

The budget office says the state did not incur any other "hard" costs.

The state had sent about $1.7 million in state reserve money to reopen five national parks and three other sites for 10 days during the shutdown in 2013.
