SALT LAKE CITY — Representatives on Tuesday advanced a resolution to officially appoint Kade Minchey as the state's legislative auditor general.
Minchey, an audit manager and veteran employee of the Auditor General's Office, has already been working as the auditor general following the retirement of longtime Auditor General John Schaff in December.
Minchey, 42, was unanimously recommended for the position by the Legislative Audit Subcommittee back in November. He was then appointed by the Legislative Management Committee, subject to approval by the Utah Legislature.
The House of Representatives voted Tuesday to approve the resolution formalizing Minchey's appointment. It now goes to the Senate for consideration.
The resolution's sponsor, House Speaker Brad Wilson, R-Kaysville, said the Legislature is "lucky to have him because he's also a great guy with great professionalism."
If approved by the Senate, Minchey's term will run six years beginning May 14, according to the resolution.
