SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Legislature's 2019 session opens Monday, and there will be new faces in several leadership roles. Republican Brad Wilson is moving from majority leader to speaker of the Utah House this year, and fellow Davis County Republican Stuart Adams is the new president of the Utah Senate. Democrats in the Senate also have a new top leader, Sen. Karen Mayne. On the House side, Democratic Rep. Brian King is returning to his role as minority leader for a fifth year.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah officials reacted Saturday with expressions of respect and sadness to the death Friday night of Robert "Archie" Archuleta, a leader of the state's Hispanic community and prominent civil rights activist. He was 88. Archuleta was former president of the Utah Coalition of La Raza, which said in a statement that Archuleta was among the first Chicano activists in Utah.
MIDVALE, Utah (AP) — Police in a Salt Lake City suburb say an infant's parents were arrested on suspicion of child neglect homicide after the 4-month-old boy was found dead at a motel with visible bruises and an abrasion or laceration. Online court records don't list defense attorneys for 21-year-old Jose Ramirez and 20-year-old Jessica Lujan who could comment on the allegations.
LA SAL, Utah (AP) — A search is underway in southeastern Utah for a snowmobiler buried by an avalanche. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office says members of the snowmobiler's party were unable to find him after he was buried late Friday in the La Sal Mountains.
