SALT LAKE CITY — A man who authorities say is responsible for a string of bank robberies in six states, including Utah, has been arrested.

Jason Lee Robinson, 49, was arrested early Thursday morning at a motel in Fruita, Colorado, according to a Facebook post from the Price City Police Department.

Robinson is accused of robbing the Wells Fargo Bank in Price on Jan. 17, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court. He’s also accused of robbing banks in Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama and Illinois starting on Dec. 28, according to the complaint.

Robinson is from Kentucky, according to FBI officials.

After observing the robber, who was later dubbed the “Traveling Bandit,” in surveillance footage from and near the Florida bank, FBI officials connected him with the "same physical appearance" as a man suspected in robberies at the other locations, according to the complaint.

After information about the robberies was released to the news media, the complaint said, a woman who said she was Robinson’s ex-wife contacted the FBI and said the photos distributed in the media looked like Robinson.

Robinson allegedly took $1,900 from the Capital Bank in Aventura, Florida in the first robbery, according to the complaint.

It’s not clear how much Robinson is accused of taking from the other banks.

No one was hurt in the Price incident, which took place about 4 p.m. Jan. 17 at the Wells Fargo Bank at 180 E. Main, according to Price police. There weren't any customers in the bank at the time, but the branch was fully staffed.

Robinson is thought to be cooperating with federal agents regarding the robberies, Price police officials said in a Facebook post.
