SALT LAKE CITY — Mitt Romney will be sworn in as one of Utah’s senators Thursday, replacing outgoing longtime Senator Orrin Hatch.
While this is Romney’s first time holding a major position in Washington, it’s not the start of his political career. He’s remembered for his run as governor in Massachusetts and his 2012 presidential bid against Barack Obama.
He entered his inauguration week with a splash after he penned an op-ed in the Washington Post that critiqued President Donald Trump. The fallout from that included backlash from Trump and from Romney’s niece, Republican Party chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.
