PANGUITCH — Three people are in critical condition after a crash that injured five others Wednesday evening near Panguitch, officials said.

Troopers believe the accident occurred just before 7 p.m. when a black car was "sideways in the roadway" on U.S. 89 south of Panguitch and a white minivan T-boned it, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street said.

He said investigators do not know why car was positioned sideways on the road.

Five people were inside the minivan and three were inside the car, he said.

Helicopters were called to the scene to transport the three victims who were in critical condition.

Additional information was not immediately available.
