SPANISH FORK — A man is in critical condition after being hit by a car while on his bike on Wednesday evening, authorities said.

The crash took place about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of 400 North and Slant Road, according to Spanish Fork police Lt. Brandon Anderson.

The 36-year-old man was riding west on his bike on 400 North, Anderson said. A silver passenger car, also heading west on 400 North, hit the man, Anderson added.

The cyclist was thrown off of the bike and had numerous injuries, Anderson said. He was transported to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in critical condition, according to Anderson.

By 8:15 p.m., the man’s condition had stabilized, Anderson added. It was not clear if he was still in critical condition at that time.

The exact cause of the crash was still being investigated, Anderson said. The area where the crash took place is extremely dark, and the darkness may have contributed to the crash, he said.

The driver, a man in his 20s, remained on the scene and was cooperating with police, Anderson said.
