SALT LAKE CITY — A man accused of purposely running over a Hire's restaurant employee was charged Wednesday.

Patrick Walker, 27, of Sandy, was charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; failing to stop for a serious accident, a third-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony. A $50,000 warrant was issued Wednesday for his arrest.

About 11:40 a.m. Friday, James Merrill, 66, an employee at Hires Big H, 425 S. 700 East, confronted Walker, who was sitting in his truck, about his unauthorized use of the parking lot, according to charging documents.

As Merrill walked away from Walker, and walked in front of his truck, a witness observed Walker "drive his truck into Merrill, knocking him down and continue to drive over Merrill," the charges state. "Walker then backed up over Merrill and drove forward over him again before driving away in a reckless manner."
