COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — Two high-schoolers have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a graffiti message that was deemed a possible threat to a middle school, authorities said Wednesday.
The two juveniles were arrested Wednesday morning, according to Cottonwood Heights police Sgt. Ryan Shosted. He did not provide any other information about their identities and did not say which school they attend.
Canyons School District officials discovered the threatening message on Tuesday afternoon at the Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center. The message contained the name of Butler Middle School and named a date, according to district spokesman Jeff Haney.
The recreation center shares a parking lot with the school.
Shosted did not say what exactly the threat said. It had been painted over by Tuesday evening, and very few students saw the message, Haney said.
Shosted said police chased down leads and looked at surveillance footage in order to identify the two juveniles who were arrested.
