SALT LAKE CITY — Crews have reached 96 percent containment of the largest wildfire of the season in Utah.

The Pole Creek Fire, which started Sept. 6 about 12 miles northeast of Nephi, has burned 102,231 acres as of Friday, according to Inciweb. The nearby Bald Mountain Fire has been 100 percent contained for several days and has burned 18,620 acres, according to fire officials.

Together, the two fires have burned nearly 189 square miles.

Officials are expecting the Pole Creek Fire to be fully contained by Oct. 10, according to Inciweb.

Meanwhile, some areas near the fire that have been closed for weeks are reopening, officials said.

The area east of Diamond Fork Road, north of U.S. Highway 6 in Spanish Fork Canyon, has been reopened, officials said. The road and the area west of the road remains closed, officials said.
