TOOELE — One person is dead and two others were injured after a crash on state Route 36 north of Tooele, officials said.
The crash took place near exit 99 on I-80 about 3:19 p.m., according to Utah Department of Transportation officials.
A Jeep was traveling south on S.R. 36 at milepost 66, near I-80 exit 99, UHP officials said on the agency's website. The driver tried to make a lane change, but hit a Hyundai Elantra and then lost control, UHP said.
The Jeep then crossed into the northbound lanes and hit a Honda Civic head-on, UHP said.
The driver of the Honda had fatal injuries, according to UHP. The driver and the passenger in the Jeep were taken to a hospital via a medical helicopter, the agency's website said. Their conditions were not immediately available.
The crash caused delays on I-80 and state Route 201, officials said. Exit 99 is closed to east- and westbound I-80 traffic, according to the KSL Traffic Center.
