HEBER CITY — A man died after being hit by a semitruck near Heber City early Saturday morning, officials said.
The crash took place about 3:05 a.m. near milepost 15 on U.S. Highway 40, about 2 miles north of Heber City, Utah Highway Patrol officials said on the agency’s website.
A semitruck carrying crude oil was driving south on the highway. The man was in the road and got hit by the truck, officials said.
The man suffered fatal injuries, Utah Highway Patrol said. He was wearing dark clothing and the road is not lit in the area, officials said.
The man may have been a transient and did not have any identification on him, according to highway patrol Cpl. Chris Bishop. Officials were working with a medical examiner to determine the man's identity, Bishop said.
The driver of the truck was not injured. Officials did not provide any identifying information about the truck driver.
Neither speed nor impairment appeared to be factors in the crash, according to investigators.
The east side of the highway was briefly closed while officials investigated the scene, Utah Highway Patrol said. As of 7:30 a.m., the right lane of the road was still closed, and officials expected the crash scene to be cleared by 8:30 a.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation’s website.
