EDEN, Weber County — Authorities on Friday identified a Roy man who died after the street sweeper he was driving crashed on Powder Mountain Thursday afternoon.

Justin Sheen, 38, died from injuries suffered in the crash, Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Matt Jensen said.

Sheen was driving the street sweeper on 5200 N. Powder Mountain Road when he lost control of the vehicle and “tried to ditch into the side of the mountain," Weber Fire District officials said on Thursday.

The vehicle went up the mountain about 45 to 50 feet. Sheen was ejected from the vehicle and suffered massive trauma to his head and body. He died at the scene.

Witnesses told police they saw the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed before the crash. Investigators believe Sheen’s vehicle may have experienced brake failure.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
