WOODS CROSS — Officers pulled a teenage driver from a fiery car crash after a robbery call and pursuit early Friday, police said.
Police responded to a call of an aggravated robbery at a 7-Eleven at 490 N. Redwood Road about 3 a.m., according to Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott Smalley.
A robber had threatened a clerk with a knife then fled the scene.
Officers spotted a vehicle they believed was involved and pursued it. The driver, who is identified as a 16-year-old boy, drove onto I-215 and Legacy Parkway at speeds that reached 90 mph at times, Smalley said.
The teen's vehicle got boxed in by other cars on Legacy Parkway at the 500 South exit and ended up in a ditch. The vehicle's fuel tank hit a rock and sparked a fire, according to Smalley.
First responders pulled the teen from the burning vehicle. The teen had a broken leg but is expected to recover, Smalley said.
The name of the teenager has not been released.
