SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities say a Salt Lake County Metro Jail inmate has died after being injured in a fist fight with another inmate.

County Sheriff's officials say 38-year-old Daniel Lamont Davis died Saturday at a hospital.

Jail records show the Taylorsville native was accused of violating a protective order.

South Salt Lake Police say they are investigating the incident.

They say Davis was taken to a hospital in critical condition after a fight with another inmate around 8 a.m. Saturday.

He was pronounced dead less than 12 hours later.

Police say the name of the other inmate is being withheld until the case is screened by the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office.
