OGDEN — Police identified the body of a man found in an Ogden alley behind a Mexican restaurant Monday.

David Marvin Paulson, 74, was discovered by residents of an apartment complex who called police about 7 a.m. Monday when they found Paulson's body near El Pollo Rico near 2600 Monroe Boulevard, according to Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott.

After inspecting the body, police began investigating Paulson's death as a homicide.

Neighbors remembered Paulson as a generous spirit who often gave money away. His neighbor, Emily Jennings, said Paulson would leave small gifts at her door and give others food, cigarettes or money.

"Not many people knew him, but he was sweet, and he didn't deserve that," she said.

Paulson's other neighbor, Ted Dominguez, said he saw the 74-year-old arguing with another man about money Sunday, but the man left after Dominguez told him to leave Paulson alone.

Dominguez told police, however, that he thought he saw the same man standing over Paulson later but didn't know if Paulson was dead.

Police arrested Jose Robert Zamora, 22, a few days later for investigation of murder and obstruction of justice in connection with the case. Zamora is accused of beating Paulson to death and claimed he was angry because he had once seen Paulson peeking into his daughter's window.

Police have not been able to locate next of kin for Paulson. Anyone with information can contact detective Wilson at 801-629-8257 or email detectives@ogdencity.com.

Paulson's body was discovered less than 12 hours after the body of a missing woman was discovered in an Ogden canal Sunday night.

Police believe the deaths are unrelated.
