OGDEN — Police have opened a homicide investigation after a man's body was found Monday in an Ogden alley behind a Mexican restaurant.

Detectives haven't released the man's name as they work to find his family members. Neighbors recalled their late, elderly friend, who they identified only as David, as a generous spirit who often gave money away.

Residents of an apartment complex called police about 7 a.m. Monday, reporting they had seen a body near El Pollo Rico near 2600 Monroe Boulevard, said Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott.

Detectives believe the victim and suspect had some kind of relationship, Scott said. "It's not what we would consider a random act."

The man's neighbor, Ted Dominguez, said he saw David arguing with another man about money on Sunday, and the man left after Dominguez told him to leave his friend alone. But he later saw the same man standing over David, he said, and didn't know if David was dead.

Emily Jennings, another neighbor, said David often left small gifts at her door and gave others food, cigarettes or money.

"Not many people knew him, but he was sweet and he didn't deserve that," she said.

Police on Monday did not provide details about how the man died, but they said detectives have a possible lead on a suspect.

The discovery comes a day after a woman's body was found Sunday in a canal in the business depot area of Ogden, near 1000 West and 600 North. An autopsy is underway.

Police did not say whether they believe the earlier death was suspicious. They believe the two deaths are unrelated.
