SALT LAKE CITY — A man died after he lost control of the bicycle he was riding and crashed Friday evening, police said.

Marty J. Galvan, 57, of Salt Lake City, was riding his bicycle down a hill west on a 500 South sidewalk when he lost control of the bike and struck his head on the curb near 515 S. 1000 East shortly before 7 p.m., Salt Lake Police Sgt. Brandon Shearer said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the crash, but Galvan died from injuries suffered in the crash. Shearer said Galvan was not wearing a helmet and had a previous head injury that made him prone to serious injury.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
