SOUTH SALT LAKE — Police booked a man into jail Wednesday after he broke into a South Salt Lake apartment and was shot Sunday, officials said.

Raphael Ames, 35, of South Salt Lake, was shot early Sunday morning at 4:30 a.m. when he broke into Brickstone Apartments located at 220 E. 3300 South, according to South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Matthew Oehler.

Ames was transported to the hospital with two gunshot wounds to his right arm, Oehler said. He is still recovering but has been moved from the hospital and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

Ames entered the apartment Sunday in a "violent and tumultuous manner," according to Oehler. Ames damaged the apartment's front door and a bedroom door where he forced entry before being shot by a male guest who was in the bedroom with a woman who lived in the apartment.

Ames knew the woman, Oehler said, but did not have any connection to the man who shot him.

The man who shot Ames has been cooperating fully with the police investigation, according to Oehler.

Ames was booked into jail on suspicion of one count of burglary.
