BOUNTIFUL — A man wanted in connection with a fatal pawn shop robbery earlier this month and who may have been involved in several other robberies in the state was arrested near Houston, Texas on May 25, police said Thursday.

Alexyanis Cutino Jimenez, 30, also known as Alexander Cutino Sanchez, was apprehended by authorities in Texas, according to Bountiful Police Lt. Dave Edwards. Jimenez was booked into Harris County Jail on a warrant charge and is awaiting extradition.

Authorities say he and Kleydys Arbolaez-Hernandez, 40, of Denver, Colorado, may have been connected to as many as 10 robberies in Utah since January, in addition to the pawn shop robbery on May 4 where Arbolaez-Hernandez was shot and killed by a clerk.

Edwards said authorities believe the two may have been involved in West Valley City the night before the attempted robbery in Bountiful. While Jimenez is suspected in the cases throughout the Wasatch Front, a warrant was also issued for his arrest in Oklahoma earlier in May.

Both Arbolaez-Hernandez and Jimenez had also been connected with robberies in Texas, police previously said.

"With the number of robberies that involved right now, there's a potential this will be prosecuted federally," Edwards said. "Right now (Jimenez) is being held on the warrant out of Oklahoma. As we all complete our charges, it will be up to the Texas corrections system to determine where the extradition will occur."

Jimenez was identified on May 10 as the person believed to be involved in the attempted robbery of Bountiful Pawn, 135 S. 500 West, on the morning of May 4.

Edwards said Arbolaez-Hernandez and Jimenez entered the business shortly after it opened at 10 a.m. Arbolaez-Hernandez had a gun, and police believe Jimenez had a hammer.

When Arbolaez-Hernandez entered the store, he pointed his handgun at a store clerk and ordered him to lay on the ground, while Jimenez moved to the merchandise area, police said.

During a moment where Arbolaez-Hernandez became distracted, the store clerk ran to a storeroom, drew a concealed weapon he was carrying and waited in a corner.

Arbolaez-Hernandez followed the clerk into the room and pointed a gun at him, and the clerk shot at Arbolaez-Hernandez, Edwards said. The two fought on the ground before Arbolaez-Hernandez succumbed to his injuries.

The clerk suffered minor injuries, including a cut to his head and a black eye, police said on May 4. It is believed both Arbolaez-Hernandez and Jimenez left the Denver area on May 1 and traveled to Salt Lake City.
