THE KESSEL RUN — Remember the days we spent years and years waiting for just news about a new "Star Wars" movie? Well, those days are far behind us because now we get a new movie once a year and movies news on what seems like a monthly basis.

Solo: A Star Wars Story” is now in theaters and marks the fourth "Star Wars" movie in as many years with more on the way.

“Solo” tells the origins of the much-loved character Han Solo and for a full review on the film make sure to check out Dave Clyde’s article. My job today is to give you all a heads up on what you can expect to see from a content perspective so you can make an educated decision on whether or not to let your kids see the movie or if you want to make a trip to the theater.

Here’s what you can expect to see in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” without spoilers:

Sexuality

This really shouldn’t come as any surprise, but much like every other "Star Wars" movie “Solo: A Star Wars story” is pretty void of any sex.

There are romantic moments between characters and a couple of jokes that might be considered borderline off-color at best. In fact, this one may be even tamer in the sexuality section than some other "Star Wars" flicks considering there are no golden bikinis or shirtless Kylo Rens to speak of.

Language

I thought this might be where “Solo” went a little further than some of its counterparts since the film focuses on smugglers and lowlife crooks, but this towed the line of other "Star Wars" movies and is very minimal. There are a few words here and there that you might hear on network television, but truth be told, the language is less than most of the sitcoms on air right now.

This doesn’t mean there are a fair amount of adult conversations going on, but the actual cursing is next to nonexistent.

Violence

As always this is where "Star Wars" movies earn their PG-13 rating, and “Solo” is no different. I don’t think it’s as violent as “The Last Jedi,” but there are people being killed, dismembered and sliced up throughout the film. None of it is bloody or graphic, but that doesn’t change the fact the filmmakers make sure you know what’s supposed to be happening off-screen.

This seems to be a theme, but “Solo” may be the tamest of the new "Star Wars" entries when it comes to violence. Again, it’s there, but it hasn’t really stuck with me like some of the moments in “Rogue One” and “The Last Jedi” did. That being said, if your kids are sensitive to violence and the recent "Star Wars" or Marvel movies are too much for them then this would likely fall into that category as well.

Conclusion

These parents guides for "Star Wars" films are often quite short because Disney has found a real formula and, up to this point, they seem to be following it pretty closely. I took my 5-year-old son who is a huge "Star Wars" fan. His excitement level was high going into the theater, and it was still high walking out. Personally, I never felt the need to cover his eyes or worry about what he was seeing.

While he was never scared and I was never uncomfortable having him there, I will say there are some moments where a lot of talking was going on and he got bored. In a 2 hour and fifteen-minute movie you run the risk of your younger kids getting bored.

Please remember, I am not telling you what is or is not appropriate for your kids, I cannot make that call, I’m simply here to let you know what you expect in the film to help educate you so you can make that decision.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” is rated PG-13 for sequences of sci-fi action/violence.
