TAYLORSVILLE — Sydnee Hoffman pulled a bases-loaded base hit down the third-base line to lift Herriman to the Class 6A state softball championship, 6-5 over Syracuse in extra innings Thursday at Valley Complex.

Libby Parkinson and Lexi Shade each hit a home-run bomb for the Mustangs, who won six-straight games through the 6A tournament.

Herriman jumped out to a 4-1 lead after three innings, but Syracuse came back with two in the fourth and took a 5-4 edge in the top of the seventh before the Mustangs forced the extra frame.

At Valley Complex, the Bees started the day with an 8-7 win over West in the loser’s bracket final before taking back-to-back games from Bountiful for the 5A championship.

Macon O’Neale’s two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh scored the game winner for the Bees, who won their first state title in 12 years.

Box Elder scored seven runnings in the top of the seventh of the first title game to take a 12-7 win and force a winner-take-all final bout late Thursday evening.
