SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 70-year-old man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car while on his bicycle, according to police.

The crash took place near 3265 S. 900 West about 4:23 p.m., according to South Salt Lake executive officer Gary Keller.

A 20-year-old woman crashed into the man, Keller said. The bicyclist was taken to a hospital in critical condition with possibly life-threatening injuries including some head trauma, Keller added.

As of 7:30 p.m., the man was still in critical condition, but had stabilized, Keller said.

The bicyclist was riding south on 900 West when the car, driving east, collided with him, Keller said. The man was not wearing a helmet and was thrown off the bike into the center of the road.

There were two other passengers, a small child and a teenager, in the car and none of the people in the car had any injuries, Keller said.

There is a stop sign on 3265 South where the crash took place, but police were still investigating the crash, Keller said. No citations had been issued as of 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The driver was cooperating with police, Keller added.

900 West was closed in both directions between 3100 South and 3300 South while crews processed the crash scene, but opened back up just before 7:30 p.m., according to Keller.
