FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) — Eintracht Frankfurt appointed Adi Huetter as coach on Wednesday to replace the Bayern Munich-bound Niko Kovac.

The Bundesliga side, which faces Bayern in the German Cup final for Kovac's last game on Saturday, says the 48-year-old Huetter has signed a deal through June 2021.

The Austrian coach is joining from Young Boys Bern, which he led to a first Swiss league title in 32 years this season, and will be joined in Frankfurt by assistant Christian Peintinger.

Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic said: "Adi knows his football, he lives and breathes the sport. He's proved at several clubs that he's capable of getting the maximum out of his players through hard work, even if circumstances aren't ideal. That's why he's a perfect fit for our club."

Huetter led Red Bull Salzburg to a domestic double in Austria in 2015, before finishing runner-up with Bern in consecutive seasons and going one better this year.

Huetter said: "I had three wonderful years at Young Boys and was extremely happy there. ... I've turned down one or two coaching offers from the Bundesliga in the past, so I'm all the more excited to be able to work in the league of the world champions."

Huetter faces a tough challenge to replace Kovac, who saved Frankfurt from relegation after taking over in March 2016, qualified for European football the following season and led the team to successive German Cup finals.
