LOGAN, Utah (AP) — Officials in a northern Utah county have adopted a one-quarter of 1 percent tax increase to fund transportation projects.
The Herald Journal reports the Cache County Council voted Tuesday to approve the tax increase, which will raise the sales tax in Logan from 6.6 percent to 6.85 percent.
The new tax revenue will fund transportation projects including road work, sidewalks, traffic signals and public transit.
County residents will now pay an additional 25 cents on a purchase of $100.
Under state legislation passed this year, up to 40 percent of the new tax revenue will be require to go to the Cache Valley Transit District.
County officials say they're exploring options to reduce the amount allocated to the transit district.
